The Non-Diet Approach for Dietitians
This is the self-paced online version of The Non-Diet Approach Workshop for Dietitians, Day 1.
This foundational course is designed to teach you about the Non-Diet Approach and weight-inclusive, weight-neutral dietetic practice. By the completion of the course and assessment items you will have demonstrated a nuanced understanding of how to apply the Non-Diet Approach principles in your practice. It covers a lot of ground, from the evidence against weight-centric approaches, to the evidence for weight-neutral approaches, from the philosophical underpinnings of various established frameworks to the application of practice principles using the Nutrition Care Process. There are assessment items if you wish to test your understanding and receive a Certificate of Completion.
You will not need any further resources for the course as the book 'The Non-Diet Approach Guidebook for Dietitians' is reproduced in the course materials.
This is the original Non-Diet Approach for Dietitians course that has been migrated over from the Open Learning platform. This course is currently receiving a comprehensive review and update, but in the mean time, please enjoy access to the original version at a significantly discounted cost. When the new course is released, you will receive a 20% discount AND coupon to the value you have paid for this course so that you can upgrade if you wish. The new course will be priced at $250AUD. That means you will only pay $99 to upgrade to the new course (and only if you want to!)
Because I couldn't help myself, I have added some new literature and excerpts from live workshop recordings to supplement the older materials until the new version is released.

The Science of Self Compassion
Self Compassion is a hot topic in academic research. Since it's entry onto the scene in 2003, Self Compassion as defined by psychologist Dr Kristin Neff has been found to have many benefits relevant to the lives of clinicians their patients including reducing burn out, strengthening the therapeutic alliance, reducing disordered eating, improving body image, improving self care. It is the foundational element of the Non-Diet Approach. This course will improve your knowledge and practice of Self Compassion in your private and professional life, through activities which have been shown in research to increase your self-compassion, and strategies to help your clients to improve their self-compassion. Suitable for a clinician of any health discipline. This is a short course and should take 2-3 hours to complete.

Unpacking Weight Science
The research about human body weight is mountainous. Most people accept unquestioningly that weight and health are closely linked. The assumption that increased weight causes poor health outcomes is widespread in medical and cultural discourse but the reality is much more interesting. This course will help you to learn how to 'unpack' weight related research, be it weight loss intervention research, 'obesity' research, or population-wide epidemiological studies, in order to interpret and discuss findings for their actual value, while weeding out weight biased rhetoric. Also covered is an overview of weight neutral interventions which incorporate health promoting behaviours, enhanced body image and self acceptance.
Learning units:
-Unpacking Energy Balance
-Unpacking BMI: Health, Risk and Disease
-Unpacking Intentional Weight Loss Efforts
-Unpacking Weight Stigma
-Health Supporting Behaviours
-Size Inclusive Approaches
This course is self-paced and should take approximately 8 hours to complete. It is suitable for all healthcare providers and health researchers. The learning content consists of videos and written materials. The assessment tasks include quizzes to check your understanding of important concepts and reflective tasks to consolidate your learning. Upon successful completion of the assessment tasks you will be issued with a certificate of completion. Please note: this course is for educational purposes only and is designed to enhance your skills in human weight-related research appraisal. It is not a clinical intervention program.
